Why do we need measurement standards-based QCI calculations in the SAP Oil, Gas, and Energy system?
SAP Oil, Gas, and Energy (SAP OG&E) comes with an open interface – the Quantity Conversion Interface (QCI).
- SAP OG&E does not deliver any validated, measurement standards-based quantity conversion solution for the QCI
- Business processes require thousands of quantity conversions per day
- For a multitude of units of measure (UoM) of various quantities (SAP dimensions) such calculations must be performed – e.g. for gross & net standard masses, gross & net standard weights, gross standard & observed volumes, net standard & observed volumes, superior and inferior energies etc.
- The calculations also control (“Gatekeeper”) and enrich thousands of external measurement data sets per day
- External measurement data does not provide all required quantity value data for the SAP OG&E business processes
Each SAP OG&E customer thus must decide how to operate the SAP QCI:
- Classic API C-code (API 1980 or Flow-Cal 2004)
- Customer developments – SAP QCI BAdI Implementations
- Combination of 1. and 2. (API C-code does not support LPG, Asphalt, Petrochemicals …)
- QuantityWare BCS: Bulk Calculations – Solution: BCP for crude oil & products, BCG for high and low pressure dry natural gas, high pressure hydrogen and other industrial gases & LNG
Once this decision is made, the two important roles of the SAP QCI must be implemented in your project: The “Gatekeeper” role and the “Enricher” role. This task is independent from the decision which of the four options is chosen.
