Why do we need a new client 045 for the QuantityWare installation?

With QuantityWare BCS, a complete quantity conversion configuration template is delivered, via two BC sets:

  • /QTYW/BCP_30A and /QTYW/BCG_30A for SAP ECC 600 systems
  • /QTYW/BCP_30B and /QTYW/BCG_30B for SAP S/4HANA systems

This template contains all technical configuration data, that is required for two purposes:

  • Perform the QuantityWare BCP and/or BCG Installation Test – the template contains more than 4 000 BCP and BCG Test Scenarios, that need to run green based on the presence of the configuration data delivered with the template
  • Implement the QuantityWare BCP and/or BCG quantity conversions in customer projects, following the PAIG methodology. The template is the repository for all supported measurement standards (UoM, mass-to-weight, CTPL and calculation model standards, in total more than 100 national and international measurement standards), which thus provides more than 800 conversion groups, from which a QuantityWare certified consultant (QWCC) selects and copies the typically 2 to 50 required conversion groups for an implementation project into the customer protected namespace (X***, Y*** or Z***). Template changes are not recommended, to ensure that the Installation Test runs at all times.

Historically, SAP delivers (legacy) technical configuration data via client 000. QuantityWare cannot use SAP client 000 for this purpose.
Without this technical configuration data, implementation of any SAP QCI quantity conversion solution is impossible.

This technical configuration data mainly consists of :

  • More than 400 Unit of Measure (UoM) definitions. These UoM definitions are a set of corrected SAP-defined UoM definitions – delivered also in SAP client 000 – and 170 new QuantityWare-defined UoM definitions (e.g. for the new dimensions gross volume, gross mass and gross weight UoM etc.).
  • 800 template conversion groups (all in the non-dedicated Q*** name range) with associated reading groups and range groups
  • More than 4 000 QuantityWare Test Scenarios

UoM definitions are also not protected by dedicated namespaces within your SAP system. QuantityWare cannot use SAP client 000 for delivery of new UoM. Also, the SAP UoM definitions, that are delivered with client 000, are not validated/corrected against an accepted UoM measurement standard. Thus, UoM delivered by QuantityWare may overwrite already existing (legacy) UoM (with possibly different meaning and/or conversion factors to the SI UoM) in other clients, with fatal consequences – typically requiring massive effort to resolve such a conflict. This has to be avoided by activating the BCP or BCG BC set – that delivers the template – in exactly one dedicated client 045* in exactly one system in your landscape.

SAP delivers approx. 40 legacy conversion groups via client 000. QuantityWare cannot utilize client 000 for the 800+ new template conversion groups. This is a second reason for a dedicated client 045 in exactly one system in your landscape.
From this single client 045, certified BCS consultants will thus select all required UoM and copy all additional configuration data (e.g. conversion groups, reading groups, range groups …) following the PAIG methodology.

Important Note:

You should never activate a QuantityWare BC set in, or transport in its entirety to, any other client. Read the BCS 3.0 Client 045 Reference Manual for important details.

*client “045” is used by QuantityWare as a standard reference term to describe “the non- modified client, copied from client 000, in which you have activated the QuantityWare BC sets and performed the installation test successfully”. The majority of customers use “045”, but customers are free to choose any client number as there are no functional references to a client with the number “045” in our code.
