What is “Client 045” and why do we need it for the QuantityWare installation?

With QuantityWare BCS, a complete quantity conversion configuration template is delivered, via two BC sets:

  • /QTYW/BCP_30A and /QTYW/BCG_30A for SAP ECC 600 systems
  • /QTYW/BCP_30B and /QTYW/BCG_30B for SAP S/4HANA systems

Template Purposes

This template contains all technical configuration data, required for two purposes:

  • To perform the QuantityWare BCP and/or BCG Installation Test:
    • The template contains more than 4 000 BCP and BCG Test Scenarios
    • For a successful Installation Test, all Test Scenarios must run green, to confirm the presence of the configuration data delivered with the template
  • To implement the QuantityWare BCP and/or BCG quantity conversions in customer projects, following the PAIG methodology:
    • The template is the repository for all supported measurement standards (UoM, mass-to-weight, CTPL and calculation model standards, in total more than 100 national and international measurement standards)
    • The template provides more than 800 conversion groups, from which a QuantityWare certified consultant (QWCC) selects and copies the typically 2 to 50 required conversion groups for an implementation project into the customer protected namespace (X***, Y*** or Z***).
    • Template changes are not recommended, to ensure that the Installation Test runs at all times.

Technical Configuration Data Details

The BCS technical configuration data mainly consists of :

  • More than 400 Unit of Measure (UoM) definitions:
    • A set of corrected SAP-defined UoM definitions – delivered also in SAP client 000 (see below)
    • 170 new QuantityWare-defined UoM definitions (e.g. for the new dimensions gross volume, gross mass and gross weight etc.).
  • 800 template conversion groups:
    • These are all in the non-dedicated Q*** name range, with associated 29reading groups and range groups
  • More than 4 000 QuantityWare Test Scenarios

Why Client 045?

“Client 045” is used by QuantityWare as a standard reference term to describe “the non- modified client, copied from client 000, in which you have activated the QuantityWare BC sets and performed the installation test successfully”.

We recommend the use of client 045, and the majority of our customers use this.

However, as there are no functional references to a client with the number “045” in our code, customers are free to use a client other than 045 if desired.

Why Not Client 000?

Historically, SAP delivers (legacy) technical configuration data via client 000. Without this technical configuration data, implementation of any SAP QCI quantity conversion solution is impossible.

QuantityWare cannot use SAP client 000 for this implementation purpose:

  • UoM definitions are not protected by dedicated namespaces within your SAP system:
    • QuantityWare cannot use SAP client 000 for delivery of new UoM
    • SAP UoM definitions, that are delivered with client 000, are not validated/corrected against an accepted UoM measurement standard
    • UoM delivered by QuantityWare may overwrite already existing (legacy) UoM (with possibly different meaning and/or conversion factors to the SI UoM) in other clients, with fatal consequences – typically requiring massive effort to resolve such a conflict
    • This has to be avoided by activating the BCP or BCG BC set – that delivers the template – in one dedicated client 045 in one system in your landscape
  • SAP delivers approx. 40 legacy conversion groups via client 000.
    • QuantityWare cannot utilize client 000 for the 800+ new template conversion groups. This is a second reason for a dedicated client 045 in  one system in your landscape

Installing in Multiple Clients

You should only have the QuantityWare BC set activated in one dedicated client in one system in your landscape.

This is typically client 045, as described above.

You should never activate a QuantityWare BC set in more than one client in your system landscape.

Read the BCS 3.0 Client 045 Reference Manual for important details.

Migrating to Other Clients

From client 045, certified BCS consultants will select all required UoM and copy all additional configuration data (e.g. conversion groups, reading groups, range groups …) following the PAIG methodology.

You should never transport the entirety of the QuantityWare BC set to any other client or system.

Read the BCS 3.0 Client 045 Reference Manual for important details.
